Jackson County Board of County Commissioners

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

SHIP Affordable Housing Incentive Strategies

The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) consists of voluntary local business professionals and residents of Jackson County, who actively seek ways to improve, encourage and facilitate affordable housing throughout the County.  The committee is also responsible for recommending revisions or amendments to the Local Housing Plan, a plan that is periodically updated and approved by the Board of County Commissioners.

By resolution the Board of County Commissioners appointed 8 members representing the real estate profession, the banking/mortgage lending industry, a citizen who represent employers, a not for profit housing provider, a for profit housing provider, a residential home builder, a low income advocate and a laborer of home building.

The Committee met as required by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation because the funding for 2016-2017 exceeds $350,000.00 due to an additional allocation of $3,364.00. Members were required to review the current Local Housing Assistance Plan strategies.

On September 15, 2016 members selected officers for the committee as follows:

Chairman – Mr. Ledon Clemmens

Vice Chair – Ms. Debbie Moxley

Secretary – Wendy Schlesinger

On November 17, 2016 a final report was completed during a Public Hearing for submission to the Board of County Commissioners for approval.

On December 13, 2016 the Board of County Commissioners approved the SHIP Affordable Housing Strategies report that was submitted to the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.

The Committee works with the County Housing Grants Coordinator for the State Housing Initiative Program and the Community Development Planning Division.  The members will re-convene in 2017 for the required tri-annual updates to the Local Housing Assistance Plan.
